Highest level of schooling

In Regional TAS, 35.7% of males aged over 15 years had completed Year 12 schooling (or equivalent) as of 2021. This was less than Greater Darwin.

Regional TAS's school completion data is a useful indicator of socio-economic status. With other indicators, such as Proficiency in English, the data informs planners and decision-makers about people's ability to access services. Dominant groups

Analysis of the highest level of schooling attained by the male population in Regional TAS in 2021 compared to Greater Darwin shows that there was a higher proportion of males who had left school at an early level (Year 10 or less) and a lower proportion of males who completed Year 12 or equivalent.

Overall, 48.3% of the male population left school at Year 10 or below, and 35.7% went on to complete Year 12 or equivalent, compared with 25.5% and 52.4% respectively for Greater Darwin.

The major differences between the level of schooling attained by the male population in Regional TAS and Greater Darwin were:

  • A larger percentage of males who completed year 10 or equivalent (34.3% compared to 17.6%)
  • A larger percentage of males who completed year 9 or equivalent (8.9% compared to 4.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males who completed year 12 or equivalent (35.7% compared to 52.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males who completed year 11 or equivalent (8.6% compared to 11.8%)

Emerging groups

The largest changes in the level of schooling attained by the male population in Regional TAS, between 2006 and 2021 were:

  • Year 12 or equivalent (+19,233 males)
  • Year 10 or equivalent (+3,247 males)
  • Year 8 or below (-3,191 males)
  • Year 11 or equivalent (+2,615 males)
