30.1% of males in Regional NSW had a Vocational qualification in 2021, higher than Australian Capital Territory. This represents an increase of 24,772 males since 2016.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the qualifications of the male population in Regional NSW in 2021 compared to Australian Capital Territory shows that there was a lower proportion of males holding formal qualifications (Bachelor or higher degree; Advanced Diploma or Diploma; or Vocational qualifications), and a higher proportion of males with no formal qualifications.

Overall, 51.6% of the male population aged 15 and over held educational qualifications, and 38.4% had no qualifications, compared with 65.3% and 28.6% respectively for Australian Capital Territory.

The major differences between qualifications held by the male population of Regional NSW and Australian Capital Territory were:

  • A larger percentage of males with Vocational qualifications (30.1% compared to 15.8%)
  • A larger percentage of males with No qualifications (38.4% compared to 28.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males with Bachelor or Higher degrees (14.6% compared to 41.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males with Advanced Diploma or Diplomas (7.0% compared to 8.4%)

Emerging groups

The largest changes in the qualifications of the male population in Regional NSW between 2016 and 2021 were in those with:

  • Bachelor or Higher degrees (+38,611 males)
  • Vocational qualifications (+24,772 males)
  • No qualifications (+18,196 males)
  • Advanced Diploma or Diplomas (+10,585 males)
