26.7% of males in Tasmania had a Vocational qualification in 2021, higher than Greater Sydney. This represents an increase of 19,900 males since 2001.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the qualifications of the male population in Tasmania in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a lower proportion of males holding formal qualifications (Bachelor or higher degree; Advanced Diploma or Diploma; or Vocational qualifications), and a higher proportion of males with no formal qualifications.

Overall, 52.6% of the male population aged 15 and over held educational qualifications, and 39.3% had no qualifications, compared with 58.3% and 33.7% respectively for Greater Sydney.

The major differences between qualifications held by the male population of Tasmania and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of males with Vocational qualifications (26.7% compared to 18.2%)
  • A larger percentage of males with No qualifications (39.3% compared to 33.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males with Bachelor or Higher degrees (19.1% compared to 31.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males with Advanced Diploma or Diplomas (6.8% compared to 8.5%)

Emerging groups

The largest changes in the qualifications of the male population in Tasmania between 2001 and 2021 were in those with:

  • Bachelor or Higher degrees (+27,346 males)
  • Vocational qualifications (+19,900 males)
  • Advanced Diploma or Diplomas (+7,300 males)
  • No qualifications (-4,075 males)
