There were more female professionals in Greater Brisbane in 2021 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Greater Brisbane in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (171,042 females or 28.1%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (125,140 females or 20.5%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (103,129 females or 16.9%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 399,311 females in total or 65.5% of the employed female resident population.

In comparison, Victoria employed 28.9% in Professionals; 18.8% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 16.3% in Community and Personal Service Workers.

The major difference between the jobs held by the female population of Greater Brisbane and Victoria was:

  • A larger percentage of females employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (20.5% compared to 18.8%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Greater Brisbane increased by 93,944 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of female residents between 2016 and 2021 in Greater Brisbane were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+35,664 females)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+21,696 females)
  • Managers (+15,206 females)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (+5,961 females)
