Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Greater Brisbane in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (136,205 males or 21.4%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (127,295 males or 20.0%)
- Managers (92,915 males or 14.6%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 356,415 males in total or 56.1% of the employed male resident population.
In comparison, Greater Darwin employed 16.2% in Professionals; 24.1% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 14.0% in Managers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Greater Brisbane and Greater Darwin were:
- A larger percentage of males employed as Professionals (21.4% compared to 16.2%)
- A larger percentage of males employed as Labourers (11.2% compared to 9.5%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (6.5% compared to 12.4%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (20.0% compared to 24.1%)

The number of employed males in Greater Brisbane increased by 77,037 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in Greater Brisbane were for those employed as:
- Professionals (+25,284 males)
- Managers (+14,217 males)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+9,645 males)
- Machinery Operators And Drivers (+8,813 males)
