Regional TAS's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Regional TAS's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Regional TAS in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Technicians and Trades Workers (16,186 males or 23.2%)
- Managers (11,333 males or 16.3%)
- Labourers (10,634 males or 15.3%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 38,153 males in total or 54.7% of the employed male resident population.
In comparison, New South Wales employed 19.3% in Technicians and Trades Workers; 17.0% in Managers; and 10.3% in Labourers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Regional TAS and New South Wales were:
- A larger percentage of males employed as Labourers (15.3% compared to 10.3%)
- A larger percentage of males employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (14.3% compared to 10.2%)
- A larger percentage of males employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (23.2% compared to 19.3%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Professionals (12.1% compared to 22.4%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed males in Regional TAS increased by 7,200 between 2006 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2006 and 2021 in Regional TAS were for those employed as:
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+1,749 males)
- Professionals (+1,450 males)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+1,439 males)
- Managers (+681 males)
