Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Greater Brisbane in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (90,526 males or 14.3%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (58,853 males or 9.3%)
  • Manufacturing (54,084 males or 8.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 203,463 males in total or 32.0% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Australia employed 14.7% in Construction; 8.3% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 8.1% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Greater Brisbane and Australia were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (7.9% compared to 6.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (1.0% compared to 3.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in mining (1.7% compared to 2.8%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Greater Brisbane increased by 77,051 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Greater Brisbane were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+12,544 males)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+11,928 males)
  • Construction (+10,373 males)
  • Retail Trade (+5,845 males)
