Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Greater Hobart in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (14,985 females or 25.4%)
- Education and Training (8,558 females or 14.5%)
- Public Administration and Safety (6,418 females or 10.9%)
In combination, these three industries employed 29,961 females in total or 50.8% of the total employed female resident population.
In comparison, Canberra employed 17.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.7% in Education and Training; and 30.5% in Public Administration and Safety.
The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Greater Hobart and Canberra were:
- A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (25.4% compared to 17.1%)
- A larger percentage of females employed in retail trade (10.3% compared to 6.7%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed in public administration and safety (10.9% compared to 30.5%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.6% compared to 9.3%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed females in Greater Hobart increased by 9,619 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Greater Hobart were for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+3,549 females)
- Education and Training (+1,763 females)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+850 females)
- Public Administration and Safety (+783 females)
