Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Greater Brisbane in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (146,676 females or 24.1%)
  • Education and Training (81,029 females or 13.3%)
  • Retail Trade (61,014 females or 10.0%)

In combination, these three industries employed 288,719 females in total or 47.4% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Australian Capital Territory employed 17.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.7% in Education and Training; and 6.7% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Greater Brisbane and Australian Capital Territory were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (24.1% compared to 17.1%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in retail trade (10.0% compared to 6.7%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in manufacturing (3.6% compared to 0.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in public administration and safety (6.4% compared to 30.5%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Greater Brisbane increased by 190,293 between 2006 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2006 and 2021 in Greater Brisbane were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+71,627 females)
  • Education and Training (+31,689 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+17,552 females)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+13,618 females)
