Regional QLD's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.
When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Regional QLD in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (144,859 females or 24.5%)
- Education and Training (78,600 females or 13.3%)
- Retail Trade (68,577 females or 11.6%)
In combination, these three industries employed 292,036 females in total or 49.4% of the total employed female resident population.
In comparison, Western Australia employed 22.7% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 13.8% in Education and Training; and 10.8% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Regional QLD and Western Australia were:
- A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (24.5% compared to 22.7%)
- A larger percentage of females employed in accommodation and food services (9.3% compared to 7.7%)
- A larger percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (2.9% compared to 1.5%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed in mining (1.1% compared to 3.3%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed females in Regional QLD increased by 112,876 between 2011 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2011 and 2021 in Regional QLD were for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+50,877 females)
- Education and Training (+20,929 females)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+5,793 females)
- Accommodation and Food Services (+5,770 females)
