Queensland's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.
When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Queensland in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Construction (188,544 males or 15.2%)
- Manufacturing (101,359 males or 8.2%)
- Retail Trade (96,752 males or 7.8%)
In combination, these three industries employed 386,655 males in total or 31.1% of the total employed male resident population.
In comparison, South Australia employed 14.0% in Construction; 10.0% in Manufacturing; and 8.4% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Queensland and South Australia were:
- A larger percentage of males employed in mining (3.7% compared to 2.1%)
- A larger percentage of males employed in construction (15.2% compared to 14.0%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (3.3% compared to 5.2%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed in manufacturing (8.2% compared to 10.0%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed males in Queensland increased by 131,696 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Queensland were for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+24,219 males)
- Construction (+22,920 males)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+15,865 males)
- Accommodation and Food Services (+9,460 males)
