Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Greater Hobart in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (8,974 males or 15.0%)
  • Public Administration and Safety (5,411 males or 9.1%)
  • Retail Trade (5,069 males or 8.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 19,454 males in total or 32.6% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Victoria employed 15.7% in Construction; 5.5% in Public Administration and Safety; and 8.0% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Greater Hobart and Victoria were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in public administration and safety (9.1% compared to 5.5%)
