Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types in Greater Hobart in 2021 compared to Victoria shows that there was a lower proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 25.8% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 11.8% were one-parent families, compared with 30.9% and 10.2% respectively for Victoria.
There were a higher proportion of lone person households and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 26.6% compared to 24.7% in Victoria while the proportion of couples without children was 26.8% compared to 24.6% in Victoria.
