Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types in Regional QLD in 2021 compared to Australia shows that there was a lower proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 25.2% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 10.8% were one-parent families, compared with 29.7% and 10.5% respectively for Australia.
There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 23.4% compared to 24.2% in Australia while the proportion of couples without children was 27.3% compared to 25.4% in Australia.
Emerging groups
The number of households in Regional QLD increased by 161,881 between 2011 and 2021.
The largest changes in family/household types in Regional QLD between 2011 and 2021 were:
- Lone person (+51,891 households)
- Couples without children (+43,156 households)
- Couples with children (+21,541 households)
