Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in Regional QLD in 2021 compared to Regional VIC shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 25.2% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 10.8% were one-parent families, compared with 24.6% and 10.1% respectively for Regional VIC.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 23.4% compared to 27.5% in Regional VIC while the proportion of couples without children was 27.3% compared to 28.0% in Regional VIC.

Emerging groups

The number of households in Regional QLD increased by 314,953 between 2001 and 2021.

The largest changes in family/household types in Regional QLD between 2001 and 2021 were:

  • Couples without children (+95,411 households)
  • Lone person (+87,829 households)
  • Couples with children (+53,660 households)
  • One parent families (+38,288 households)
