Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in Greater Brisbane in 2021 compared to Greater Capital Cities shows that there was a lower proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 30.8% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 11.4% were one-parent families, compared with 32.5% and 10.6% respectively for Greater Capital Cities.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 22.7% compared to 23.4% in Greater Capital Cities while the proportion of couples without children was 25.3% compared to 24.2% in Greater Capital Cities.

The number of households in Greater Brisbane increased by 256,382 between 2006 and 2021.
