Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in Greater Darwin in 2021 compared to Northern Territory shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 29.0% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 10.1% were one-parent families, compared with 27.0% and 10.3% respectively for Northern Territory.

There were a higher proportion of lone person households and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 20.7% compared to 19.7% in Northern Territory while the proportion of couples without children was 22.6% compared to 20.2% in Northern Territory.
