Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types in Greater Darwin in 2021 compared to South Australia shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a lower proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 29.0% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 10.1% were one-parent families, compared with 26.9% and 10.8% respectively for South Australia.
There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 20.7% compared to 27.3% in South Australia while the proportion of couples without children was 22.6% compared to 26.4% in South Australia.
