Dominant groups
Analysis of the female five year age groups of Western Australia in 2021 compared to Greater Hobart shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 18.4% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 17.0% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 16.0% and 19.7% respectively for Greater Hobart.
The major differences between the female age structure of Western Australia and Greater Hobart were:
- A larger percentage of females aged 0 to 4 (5.9% compared to 4.9%)
- A larger percentage of females aged 5 to 9 (6.3% compared to 5.5%)
- A larger percentage of females aged 40 to 44 (6.7% compared to 6.0%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 25 to 29 (6.6% compared to 7.9%)
Emerging groups
From 2006 to 2021, Western Australia's female population increased by 355,185 people (36.1%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.07% per year over the period.
The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 65 to 69 (+32,916 females)
- 60 to 64 (+32,355 females)
- 30 to 34 (+31,499 females)
- 70 to 74 (+29,880 females)
