Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Greater Adelaide in 2021 compared to Western Australia shows that there was a lower proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 17.9% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 17.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 19.7% and 15.3% respectively for Western Australia.

The major differences between the male age structure of Greater Adelaide and Western Australia were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 20 to 24 (6.8% compared to 6.1%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (7.2% compared to 6.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 0 to 4 (5.7% compared to 6.3%)
