Regional NT

Five year age groups

In 2021, the largest age group in Regional NT was 30 to 34 year olds. The group that changed the most since 1991 was 60 to 64 year olds, increasing by 1,980 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Regional NT in 2021 compared to Western Australia shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 20.2% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 11.7% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 19.6% and 15.3% respectively for Western Australia.

The major differences between the male age structure of Regional NT and Western Australia were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (8.2% compared to 6.6%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 30 to 34 (8.4% compared to 7.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 85 and over (0.3% compared to 1.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 75 to 79 (1.6% compared to 2.9%)

Emerging groups

From 1991 to 2021, Regional NT's male population increased by 8,576 people (18.4%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.57% per year over the period.

The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 1991 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 60 to 64 (+1,980 males)
  • 65 to 69 (+1,905 males)
  • 55 to 59 (+1,718 males)
  • 50 to 54 (+1,526 males)
