Regional TAS

Five year age groups

In 2021, the largest age group in Regional TAS was 60 to 64 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2006 was 70 to 74 year olds, increasing by 4,650 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of Regional TAS in 2021 compared to South Australia shows that there was a similar proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 15.9% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 23.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 16.3% and 21.3% respectively for South Australia.

The major differences between the female age structure of Regional TAS and South Australia were:

  • A larger percentage of females aged 60 to 64 (7.6% compared to 6.4%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 65 to 69 (6.8% compared to 5.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 35 to 39 (5.8% compared to 6.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 20 to 24 (5.0% compared to 5.9%)

Emerging groups

From 2006 to 2021, Regional TAS's female population increased by 17,257 people (12.4%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.78% per year over the period.

The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 70 to 74 (+4,650 females)
  • 65 to 69 (+4,292 females)
  • 60 to 64 (+4,109 females)
  • 75 to 79 (+2,488 females)
