Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Greater Darwin in 2021 compared to Victoria shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 20.4% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 10.0% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.8% and 15.7% respectively for Victoria.

The major differences between the male age structure of Greater Darwin and Victoria were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 30 to 34 (9.3% compared to 7.6%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (8.8% compared to 7.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 75 to 79 (1.7% compared to 3.0%)
