Dominant groups
Analysis of the male five year age groups of Greater Sydney in 2021 compared to Victoria shows that there was a similar proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 19.2% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 14.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.9% and 15.5% respectively for Victoria.
There were no major differences between Greater Sydney and Victoria in 2021.
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, Greater Sydney's male population increased by 201,902 people (8.5%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.65% per year over the period.
The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 35 to 39 (+26,538 males)
- 70 to 74 (+21,543 males)
- 10 to 14 (+20,223 males)
- 60 to 64 (+16,288 males)
