Dominant groups
Analysis of the male five year age groups of Greater Sydney in 2021 compared to Victoria shows that there was a similar proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 19.2% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 14.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.9% and 15.5% respectively for Victoria.
There were no major differences between Greater Sydney and Victoria in 2021.
Emerging groups
From 2006 to 2021, Greater Sydney's male population increased by 557,044 people (27.6%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.64% per year over the period.
The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 35 to 39 (+48,879 males)
- 25 to 29 (+47,115 males)
- 30 to 34 (+45,093 males)
- 70 to 74 (+43,119 males)
