Dominant groups
Analysis of the male five year age groups of Regional Australia in 2021 compared to Victoria shows that there was a similar proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 18.7% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 20.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.8% and 15.7% respectively for Victoria.
The major differences between the male age structure of Regional Australia and Victoria were:
- A larger percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (5.7% compared to 4.2%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 30 to 34 (6.0% compared to 7.6%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (6.0% compared to 7.5%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 35 to 39 (6.0% compared to 7.5%)
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, Regional Australia's male population increased by 273,112 people (7.1%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.38% per year over the period.
The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 70 to 74 (+54,058 males)
- 75 to 79 (+35,492 males)
- 35 to 39 (+29,316 males)
- 60 to 64 (+26,701 males)
