Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Northern Territory in 2021 compared to Victoria shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 21.5% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 9.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.8% and 15.7% respectively for Victoria.

The major differences between the male age structure of Northern Territory and Victoria were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 30 to 34 (9.1% compared to 7.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (2.7% compared to 4.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 75 to 79 (1.5% compared to 3.0%)
