Dominant groups
Analysis of the male five year age groups of Regional SA in 2021 compared to Victoria shows that there was a lower proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 16.6% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 23.8% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.9% and 15.5% respectively for Victoria.
The major differences between the male age structure of Regional SA and Victoria were:
- A larger percentage of males aged 65 to 69 (7.3% compared to 4.7%)
- A larger percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (6.7% compared to 4.1%)
- A larger percentage of males aged 60 to 64 (7.7% compared to 5.4%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (5.3% compared to 7.5%)
Emerging groups
From 1991 to 2021, Regional SA's male population increased by 26,933 people (15.5%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.48% per year over the period.
The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 1991 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 70 to 74 (+8,189 males)
- 65 to 69 (+7,563 males)
- 60 to 64 (+6,740 males)
- 55 to 59 (+6,644 males)
