Dominant groups
Analysis of the male five year age groups of New South Wales in 2021 compared to Greater Hobart shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 19.0% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 16.7% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.7% and 17.4% respectively for Greater Hobart.
The major differences between the male age structure of New South Wales and Greater Hobart were:
- A larger percentage of males aged 40 to 44 (6.5% compared to 5.8%)
- A larger percentage of males aged 5 to 9 (6.5% compared to 5.9%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (7.0% compared to 8.3%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 30 to 34 (7.2% compared to 8.2%)
Emerging groups
From 2006 to 2021, New South Wales's male population increased by 755,714 people (23.4%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.41% per year over the period.
The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 70 to 74 (+79,979 males)
- 65 to 69 (+75,506 males)
- 60 to 64 (+69,181 males)
- 25 to 29 (+67,759 males)
