Regional NT

Five year age groups

In 2021, the largest age group in Regional NT was 25 to 29 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2006 was 60 to 64 year olds, increasing by 1,565 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of Regional NT in 2021 compared to Greater Hobart shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 19.1% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 10.6% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 16.0% and 19.7% respectively for Greater Hobart.

The major differences between the female age structure of Regional NT and Greater Hobart were:

  • A smaller percentage of females aged 75 to 79 (1.2% compared to 3.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 85 and over (0.4% compared to 2.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 80 to 84 (0.6% compared to 2.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 70 to 74 (3.1% compared to 5.0%)

Emerging groups

From 2006 to 2021, Regional NT's female population increased by 6,462 people (14.0%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.88% per year over the period.

The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 60 to 64 (+1,565 females)
  • 65 to 69 (+1,473 females)
  • 30 to 34 (+947 females)
  • 70 to 74 (+932 females)
