Dominant groups
Analysis of the female five year age groups of South Australia in 2021 compared to Regional WA shows that there was a lower proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 16.3% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 21.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 19.2% and 17.9% respectively for Regional WA.
The major differences between the female age structure of South Australia and Regional WA were:
- A larger percentage of females aged 20 to 24 (5.9% compared to 4.6%)
- A larger percentage of females aged 85 and over (3.2% compared to 2.1%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 5 to 9 (5.6% compared to 6.6%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 10 to 14 (5.7% compared to 6.7%)
Emerging groups
From 2006 to 2021, South Australia's female population increased by 133,779 people (17.4%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.07% per year over the period.
The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:

- 65 to 69 (+20,765 females)
- 60 to 64 (+18,542 females)
- 25 to 29 (+13,881 females)
