Dominant groups
Analysis of the male five year age groups of Greater Adelaide in 2021 compared to Regional SA shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 18.1% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 17.0% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 16.6% and 23.8% respectively for Regional SA.
The major differences between the male age structure of Greater Adelaide and Regional SA were:
- A larger percentage of males aged 20 to 24 (6.9% compared to 4.8%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 65 to 69 (5.0% compared to 7.3%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (4.6% compared to 6.7%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 60 to 64 (5.8% compared to 7.7%)
Emerging groups
From 2006 to 2021, Greater Adelaide's male population increased by 114,684 people (20.5%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.25% per year over the period.
The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 70 to 74 (+13,499 males)
- 65 to 69 (+13,171 males)
- 25 to 29 (+12,587 males)
- 60 to 64 (+11,883 males)
