Dominant groups
Analysis of the five year age groups of Regional NSW in 2021 compared to Regional VIC shows that there was a similar proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a similar proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 17.9% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 22.0% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.7% and 21.8% respectively for Regional VIC.
There were no major differences between Regional NSW and Regional VIC in 2021.
Emerging groups
From 2006 to 2021, Regional NSW's population increased by 414,869 people (17.1%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.06% per year over the period.
The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 70 to 74 (+70,307 persons)
- 65 to 69 (+67,081 persons)
- 60 to 64 (+60,932 persons)
- 25 to 29 (+42,324 persons)
