In 2021, the largest age group in Regional QLD was 10 to 14 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2006 was 70 to 74 year olds, increasing by 34,770 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Regional QLD in 2021 compared to Regional NSW shows that there was a similar proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 19.1% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 18.7% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.6% and 21.4% respectively for Regional NSW.

The major differences between the male age structure of Regional QLD and Regional NSW were:

  • A smaller percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (5.3% compared to 5.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 65 to 69 (5.7% compared to 6.4%)

Emerging groups

From 2006 to 2021, Regional QLD's male population increased by 265,202 people (25.9%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.55% per year over the period.

The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 70 to 74 (+34,770 males)
  • 65 to 69 (+30,659 males)
