Dominant groups
Analysis of the female five year age groups of Northern Territory in 2021 compared to Regional NSW shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 19.0% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 11.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.1% and 22.8% respectively for Regional NSW.
The major differences between the female age structure of Northern Territory and Regional NSW were:
- A larger percentage of females aged 30 to 34 (9.3% compared to 6.0%)
- A larger percentage of females aged 25 to 29 (9.0% compared to 5.7%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 85 and over (0.5% compared to 3.3%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 75 to 79 (1.5% compared to 4.3%)
Emerging groups
From 2011 to 2021, Northern Territory's female population increased by 18,531 people (16.8%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.57% per year over the period.
The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2011 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 30 to 34 (+3,158 females)
- 65 to 69 (+2,644 females)
- 60 to 64 (+2,111 females)
- 70 to 74 (+2,094 females)
