Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Regional VIC in 2021 compared to South Australia shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 18.3% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 21.6% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.7% and 18.7% respectively for South Australia.

The major differences between the male age structure of Regional VIC and South Australia were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 65 to 69 (6.6% compared to 5.6%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (6.1% compared to 5.1%)
