Dominant groups
In 2021, there were 217,433 separate houses in the area, 27,071 medium density dwellings, and 1,272 high density dwellings. In addition, there were 14,572 caravans/cabins/houseboats in the area.
Analysis of the types of dwellings in Regional WA in 2021 shows that 81.9% of all dwellings were separate houses; 10.2% were medium density dwellings, and 0.5% were in high density dwellings, compared with 88.9%, 9.4%, and 0.3% in the Regional VIC respectively.
In 2021, a total of 82.4% of the dwellings in Regional WA were occupied on Census night, compared to 86.5% in Regional VIC. The proportion of unoccupied dwellings was 17.0%, which is larger compared to that found in Regional VIC (13.2%).

The total number of dwellings in Regional WA increased by 110,248 between 1991 and 2021.
