The largest non-English speaking country of birth in Tasmania was China, where 1.2% of the population, or 6,830 people, were born.
The major differences between the countries of birth of the population in Tasmania and Australia were:

- A smaller percentage of people born in New Zealand (1.0% compared to 2.1%)
