Dominant groups

Analysis of the need for assistance of females in Australia compared to Regional NSW shows that there was a lower proportion of females who reported needing assistance with core activities.

Overall, 5.8% of the female population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 7.0% for Regional NSW.

The major differences in the female age groups reporting a need for assistance in Greater Capital Cities and Regional NSW were:

  • A larger percentage of females aged 80 to 84 (32.9% compared to 27.2%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 85 and over (54.6% compared to 50.5%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 75 to 79 (19.3% compared to 15.5%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 70 to 74 (12.3% compared to 10.1%)

Emerging groups

The major differences in the female age groups reporting a need for assistance between 2016 and 2021 in Greater Capital Cities were in the age groups:

  • 70 to 74 (+13,209 females)
  • 20 to 59 (+12,851 females)
  • 85 and over (+11,120 females)
  • 80 to 84 (+11,009 females)
