This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.
When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Green Wedge in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Construction (827 people or 20.7%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (517 people or 12.9%)
- Education and Training (354 people or 8.8%)
In combination, these three industries employed 1,698 people in total or 42.4% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, the City of Whittlesea employed 11.4% in Construction; 15.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 7.7% in Education and Training.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Green Wedge and the City of Whittlesea were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (20.7% compared to 11.4%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (12.9% compared to 15.3%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in retail trade (8.0% compared to 10.3%)

The number of employed people in Green Wedge increased by 389 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Green Wedge were for those employed in:
- Construction (+188 persons)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+75 persons)
