More Rural North East female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Rural North East in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (151 females or 22.0%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (149 females or 21.7%)
  • Education and Training (66 females or 9.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 366 females in total or 53.3% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, South Gippsland Shire employed 23.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.2% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; and 12.2% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Rural North East and South Gippsland Shire were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (21.7% compared to 10.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in retail trade (7.9% compared to 10.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in education and training (9.6% compared to 12.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (22.0% compared to 23.8%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Rural North East increased by 130 between 2016 and 2021.
