Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Thornlands in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,563 people or 15.3%)
  • Construction (1,272 people or 12.4%)
  • Retail Trade (1,025 people or 10.0%)

In combination, these three industries employed 3,860 people in total or 37.7% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, North Stradbroke Island employed 9.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.1% in Construction; and 7.1% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Thornlands and North Stradbroke Island were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (15.3% compared to 9.6%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (6.7% compared to 2.9%)
