Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with some land used for farming. Most of it remained as bushland until the mid-1960s, when significant residential development occurred, spurred by the planning of the suburb as a satellite town in 1961. Rapid growth took place from the late 1960s into the late 1980s, with population growth slowing during the early 1990s. The population was relatively stable from 1996, a result of little change in dwelling stock and a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.

Alexandra Hills is a predominantly residential area, but also includes substantial parkland and conservation areas, and a sewage treatment plant in the east.
