Ancestry
The three largest ancestries in Green Wedge in 2016 were English, Australian and Irish.
Ancestry defines the cultural association and ethnic background of an individual going back three generations. Ancestry is a good measure of the total size of cultural groups in Green Wedge regardless of where they were born or what language they speak.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in Green Wedge in 2016 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:
- English (3,634 people or 44.8%)
- Australian (3,106 people or 38.3%)
- Irish (1,003 people or 12.4%)
- Scottish (979 people or 12.1%)
- Italian (320 people or 3.9%)
In combination these five ancestries account for 9,042 responses in total, or 111.46% of all responses.
The major differences between the ancestries of the population in Green Wedge and Dromana - Safety Beach were:
- A larger percentage of people with Australian ancestry (38.3% compared to 33.6%)
- A larger percentage of people with English ancestry (44.8% compared to 42.5%)
- A smaller percentage of people with Greek ancestry (0.9% compared to 3.7%)
