Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in City of Melton in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (10,045 people or 12.3%)
  • Construction (9,187 people or 11.3%)
  • Retail Trade (8,466 people or 10.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 27,698 people in total or 34.0% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 13.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.3% in Construction; and 9.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the City of Melton and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (10.2% compared to 4.9%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (11.3% compared to 9.3%)
