Dominant groups

Analysis of the country of birth of the population in the City of Melton in 2016 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a smaller proportion of people born overseas, as well as a smaller proportion of people from a non-English speaking background.

Overall, 29.9% of the population was born overseas, and 24.7% were from a non-English speaking background, compared with 33.8% and 27.0% respectively for Greater Melbourne.

The largest non-English speaking country of birth in the City of Melton was India, where 3.8% of the population, or 5,118 people, were born.

The major differences between the countries of birth of the population in the City of Melton and Greater Melbourne were:
