Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Footscray in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,259 people or 12.8%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (1,141 people or 11.6%)
  • Education and Training (941 people or 9.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 3,341 people in total or 33.9% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, the City of Maribyrnong employed 12.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.7% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 9.3% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Footscray and the City of Maribyrnong were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (9.0% compared to 7.1%)
