Dominant groups
Analysis of the share of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population attending educational institutions in Gunnedah Shire Council in 2021 compared to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander in Regional NSW shows that there was a higher proportion attending primary school, a lower proportion attending secondary school, and a lower proportion engaged in tertiary level education.
Overall, 18.3% of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population were attending primary school, 8.4% of the population were attending secondary institutions, and 4.0% were learning at a tertiary level, compared with 15.5%, 10.6% and 5.7% respectively for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander in Regional NSW.
The major differences between the share of the population attending learning institutions of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population in Gunnedah Shire and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander in Regional NSW was:
