Households form the common 'economic unit' in our society. The G21 Region's Household Income is one of the most important indicators of socio-economic status. With other data sources, such as Educational Qualifications and Occupation, it helps to reveal the economic opportunities and socio-economic status of the recent arrivals in the G21 Region.
Income for recent arrivals may be lower or higher than the wider population. Generally, areas with many recent migrants, particularly students and refugees, may have lower incomes. On the other hand, some areas attract more recent skilled migrants and business sponsored migration which will tend to have higher incomes among their recent arrivals.

Dominant groups
Analysis of household income levels for recent arrivals in the G21 Region shows that there was a larger proportion of recent arrivals in high income households (those earning $3,000 per week or more) and a similar proportion in low income households (those earning less than $799 per week) compared to Regional VIC in 2021.
Overall, 31.7% of recent arrivals were in households that earned a high income, and 8.8% were in low income households, compared with 27.7% and 8.7% respectively for Regional VIC.
The major differences between household income levels of recent arrivals in G21 Region and Regional VIC were:
- A larger percentage of people in households who earned $3,000 - $3,499 (9.2% compared to 7.9%)
- A smaller percentage of people in households who earned $2,500 - $2,999 (9.5% compared to 10.6%)
- A smaller percentage of people in households who earned $1,750 - $1,999 (5.9% compared to 7.0%)
