There were more professionals in G21 Region in 2021 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in G21 Region in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (38,315 people or 22.2%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (25,218 people or 14.6%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (22,607 people or 13.1%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 86,140 people in total or 49.9% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Regional VIC employed 18.8% in Professionals; 14.4% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 12.7% in Community and Personal Service Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of G21 Region and Regional VIC were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Professionals (22.2% compared to 18.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Labourers (10.0% compared to 12.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Managers (12.8% compared to 14.5%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in G21 Region increased by 34,174 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in G21 Region were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+10,177 persons)
  • Managers (+5,388 persons)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+5,359 persons)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+4,313 persons)
